Between the Sea and the Flames

In collaboration with Miao artist Jiang Honglin

The work is a re-creation based on the paper-cut artworks Fish Dragon Butterfly and Flame Butterfly by Miao artist Jiang Honglin. The music features the composition Opening Heaven and Earth by Miao musician Yang Shengwen.

I imagine the boundary between dreams and reality, the birth or end of the universe, where the sea and flames intersect. The butterfly mother undergoes a rebirth through the sea and flames, telling the gentle and enchanting Miao legends.
