Video3.14min
2020-2022

A real fly will inevitably die after a painful struggle, but in the new story, the maggot eventually transforms into a fly and flies away, gaining a sense of freedom and liberation. While we cannot change the reality of the pain that has occurred, we can, to some extent, find reconciliation with it.

I woke up from a dream.

It was the season of growth, with heavy oleanders falling into the soil, the air filled with the scent of decay. A man leaned against the shattered wall, staring at me with pitch-black eyes, unfathomable. In his pupils, hundreds of maggots wriggled, intertwined, and grew. He turned around, braced himself on the wall, and leapt over it.

The moss on the wall was cold and sticky. I fell onto the damp soil, holding a few petals in my hand—it was the entrance to the forest. Lush trees pierced the sky, cautious birds hidden in the shadows. Following the footprints in the soil, I moved forward, branches brushing past my ears, and the air carried a faint sweetness of blood. At the end was the legendary Baroque-style building. The wind lifted the heavy curtains; he stood by the window with his back to me. Sensing my arrival, he closed the last light in the castle.

In the moment darkness engulfed me, I opened my palm. The first fly born spread its wings and flew away.

Insecurity embraced me gently, like a lingering nightmare.
